About Living with Dementia

Living with Dementia: Challenges Overcome and Lessons Learned is a deeply personal account of one daughter’s journey caring for her mother through the long and difficult progression of dementia. Through journal entries written during the caregiving years, Janet Ammons Cook shares the daily realities that families often face but rarely discuss, the confusion, unexpected behaviors, emotional strain, and constant adjustments required when a loved one’s mind begins to change.

With honesty, compassion, and moments of humor, she describes learning to navigate everything from early warning signs and growing suspicions to delusions, declining independence, and the heartbreaking final stages of the disease. Along the way, she also shares helpful insights gathered throughout the journey, including small lifestyle changes, research discoveries, and practical ideas that may help support brain health and improve quality of life for both caregivers and those living with dementia. More than a memoir, this book offers understanding, comfort, and thoughtful guidance for anyone who has cared for, or may one day care for, a loved one with dementia.
